In Lecture 8 we look at beta-thalassaemia major, and in particular at the prevention-and-control programme for thalassaemia in late 20th Century Cyprus. The lecture argues that the specific historical and political contexts of time and place mean that this model is precisely NOT suited to sickle cell at other times and in other places.
